Cliff Wallace

On Nov. 30, 2006, we had a guest speaker by the name of Cliff Wallace aka"Money is Time". Mr. Wallace is an Local Sales Manager for CW22. His main job is to sell ads to different compaines and etc. Also, Cliff Wallace was dicussing the business of television which intitles the following departments: newtork comp., web element and production(producting ads/programs). Mr. Wallace was talking about the Demographic Market Area and the number of countires included 25 countries.
Some of the research tools used is NSI, QSR, HUT, HVT and CPM. NSI tells how many people are watching. HUT measures the households using television and HVT measures the households viewing television. CPM stands for cost per thousands. Cliff Wallace was talking about the tevelsion viweing which is 60 precent broadcast and the other 40 percent which is cable stations.
Also, he was talking about the tevelsion stations in the RDU area which are the following: WRAZ-50, WRDC-28, WLTL-22 andWTVD-11. Some broadcast cast are the following: WRAL-5 and WNCN-17.

John Greene

On Tuesday November 28, 2006, we had a guest speaker by the name of John Greene. John Greene is the Vice President of WRAL. Mr. Greene said that news was the last media. Also, he was saying that WRAL is a news production company just like a movie company. WRAL has a second news channel which is digital which shows news, data, 24-hours news, weather. Mr. Greene was talking about the copyright fine which 150,000 dollars. In February 17, 2009, all anagol signals will be converted to digital signals. WRAL has 10 departments which sales, news, IT, new media, engeering.

Mike-E

On November 14, 2006, we had a guest speaker by the name of Mike-E. Mike-E is an emerging artist of a profound measure. He is a Detriot-based hip-hop and spoken word recording artist. Mike-E is a Afro-Flow artist which can be reach for Ethopia, US, Canada and Europe.

Cornell West

On Novemeber 2, 06 in Mass Media and Society, we watched a speech by Cornell West on September 29, 05. N.C. Central University. Cornell West was talking about how America. West was saying that in Jim Crow America that N.C. Central University was founded by James E. Sherpard and Sherpard stand up for this Liberal Arts University. Also, West stated that too mich sleep is going on in Black America. Cornell West was talking about legacy and he was saying what legacy do you want to leave there fore take couarge to be free. West also was saying being sucessfully and not great in what you do, "What are you using your sucess for?", and EAGLES need to fly high. My favorite quote he used was "Your learning how to die is education". I feel that this quote is true.

Reflections

On November 2, 2006, we a show in which Mr. Chambers produced. The name of the show was entitled Reflections. Reflections had two guests by the name of Robert Townsend and Spike Lee. Robert Townsend was discussing his first movie "Hollywod Shuffles". The movie, Hollywood Shuffles was about how he was dreaming that he won an oscar, aspiring to be an actor and he was working at a hot dog stand. Townsend was breaking the color barrier by doing this movie on his own. Also, Townsend made the movie with 40,000 in credit cards.

Spike Lee was talking about his first movie "She Got To Have It" and the things he went through about producing the movie. Spike Lee dont get any credit cards because he had student loans' to pay. Lee got the money from grants, family, and friends. Both of this black males set a tone in the 1980's and help balanced it out. Spike Lee and Robert Townsend releated to a modern day Terrence Howard in Hustle and Flow.

WNCU 90.7

On October 31, we had another guest seaker her name is Ms. Thorpe. Ms. Thorpe is the general manager at WNCU. WNCU(90.7) is a public radio station and a non commerical station. Ms. Thorpe was telling us about the radio staion and how it got started.
She also told us that we need to start your careers on campus and start working with WNCU, Campus Echo, and Audio Net. Also, Ms. Thorpe was giving a real talk about the media and a question she asked was "How does the media affects us?". That question sounded so fimiliar because all the guest speakers we had have ask the same question too.

Sandi Freeman

On Thursday, October 26, 2006, we had a guest speaker Sandi Freeman. Sandi Freeman works for the TRIBES magazine. Ms. Freeman was expressing that she enjoys reading and writing. She was discussing how the magazine had got start with her best friend and that the magazine was just a idea. TRIBES magazine was launched in June 2004. The magazine was hard work because it was just her and her best friend throughout they was doing all the work off of a desktop computer. She was also saying you should not burn your bridges because they can help you in the future. As well, Ms. Freeman was talking about encouraging others to read and write. Lastly, she was discussing that we as students can help the magazine and contribution your ideas and talents.

Calvin Hackney

In class this past week, we watched a speech by Calvin Hackney which he spoke talking about various topics. Calvin Hackney was saying that education is a lie and that you should go to college to get a good job. Also, he was saying that the sole purpose of education is not money but to help others. This quote "If it makes dollars it makes sense" because people fail to realize that money is not very thing and that money makes sense to everyone.
He said that he always listened to his grandmother. Also, Mr. Hackney was saying if you a pimp then whp pimped your mom which is then because you would not want so one to do that to your mom, sister, grandmother and etc. Education is to make doctors, lawyers, nurses to man and womans.

Michael Eric Dyson

On October 19, 2006, Mr. Chambers' had the class watched Michael Eric Dyson. Dr. Dyson was speaking at Commencenment 2005. I quote that I took to heart of "Get a bachelor's to get to master's, master's to get a Ph.D., Ph.D. to get a Post Doctorate". Also, he was saying that we as black people needs to give to the community and the blacks. He also this stressing the three C's. He was saying that African American people gives there children some creative and crazy names and it's not there name but what they have inside of them. He was pressing that we need to apply your creatively and help others. Don't be but take a stand and help somebody and help each other and the goverment will not help us.
